We all have goals. It being close to the new year, you are likely starting to really hone in the goals you would like to accomplish in 2024. I have been coaching this fitness thing for close to 15 years now and one observation that I can make is that goals are just fluff most of the time and the ones that are not fluff, get accomplished.
Here is how to make sure your goal is not fluff.
What level of commitment do you have towards your goals? Let’s say your goal is to get your first pull-up. If I were to ask you, on a scale from 1-10, where would you rate it? Anything that isn’t a 10, is a waste of time! You might have read that and thought, truthfully, it’s like an 8. 10/10 means the priority is so high that your career and family, although not necessarily a back seat, are not going to interfere with your process and you will not let them.
If you don’t want fluff goals, find your 10/10.
So it isn’t a pull-up then? But it might be strength. You know you need to be strong to prevent the facts of aging from defeating you. You know you need to be strong to feel confident in yourself (more on that here). It is starting to feel like a 10/10 to be strong but here is the issue… “strong” needs to be defined for you.
Define your 10/10
This might bring you right back to a pull-up! I will consider myself strong when I can do a pull-up. Now it isn’t the pull-up that is a 10/10 but it is how you are going to measure your success. GREAT JOB.
It is all fluff until there is purpose!
Goals like a pull-up, a better “Fran” (21-15-9 Thrusters and pull-ups) time, Bench press 225, Run a marathon, etc are all fluff UNLESS they are meant to serve a greater purpose.
Goal Setting Foundation
Here is what you need to do… TODAY. Find your 10/10. That’s it. We can make SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound) goals later. Where is the fire? Find it! No more fluffy sh**
